These are essential metabolic pathways which are needed for the proper functioning of a biological system.

The body needs different substances and materials in order to function properly. Some of the materials needed come into the body in a manner in which they are ready to be used by the body. Other substances and materials have to be processed by the body in order for the body to have what it needs. This processing takes place inside the cells of the body. Substances and materials are processed through what are known as metabolic pathways. A metabolic pathway is a set of biochemical reactions that change a substance into another substance or other usable materials that the body needs.

Metabolic pathways are important to the body because they produce exactly what the body needs. Without them, the body would lack what it needs to function. This is especially important when it comes down to generating the energy that the body needs to carry out other functions in the body. Not all metabolic pathways are the same. Some build substances while others break substances down.
